I look for the format that hasn't been tried
Most briefs arrive with an implied answer already attached: another conference, another activation, another stage with three chairs on it. I start further back. What is this actually for, who is it for, and what would make it worth someone's afternoon. Then I look for a shape that fits that, even if it means a room nobody has used, a schedule that breaks the convention, or a format I have to invent the logistics for. Repeating what worked last year is the safest way to make something forgettable.
